Icebreakers 🧊 by Airspeed is a Slack app where you can easily automate icebreakers for your team meetings. Take 5 minutes to get to know teammates a little better each week and make meetings more fun. The Icebreakers app helps build rapport in team meetings and increase employee engagement.

You can install the app from our product page or the Slack App store.

Icebreakers work best when they’re tied to an existing meeting or event with a team, department, or company. Add to the channel(s) with the members you’d like to ask, such as #marketing-team or #september-offsite, and then share their responses at the meeting or event. 

You can add Icebreakers to multiple Slack channels. You can also add multiple Icebreakers within a single Slack channel.

Navigate to the Home tab of the Icebreakers Slack app, and view the “This week’s upcoming Icebreakers” section. Click the “✍️ Answer Icebreaker” button to answer any of the Icebreakers before the response deadline.

No, only the creator of the Icebreaker can edit or delete it.

What would you like to ask? This is the Icebreaker question itself. You can use our database of Icebreakers by clicking the “Shuffle” button, or add a fun question yourself. 

Where should we post the question? Add your Icebreaker to one or several channels, depending on who you would like to answer the Icebreaker. 

When should we send the question? For a higher response rate, give users time to answer the question before the deadline. For example, if you have a team meeting on Thursdays at 10am, you may want to send it by Wednesday at 10am to give people 24 hours to share their answer. 

When is the deadline for the responses? Select a date and time for responses to be shared in the channel. You can review responses together during an event or meeting, or even review asynchronously.

Is this question recurring? You can make one-time Icebreakers, or have them repeat at a regular cadence. The recurring options are either daily (work days), weekly, or monthly. We recommend using this feature to align with a daily standup, weekly team meeting, or monthly town hall.

Once Icebreakers 🧊 by Airspeed is installed in your workspace, simply @ mention Icebreakers in a message in the private channel. You’ll see a message confirming it was installed, as well as recommended next steps.

No, we only reminder users who haven’t answered the Icebreaker yet. We’ll remind them 15 minutes before the deadline.

Yes, and we highly recommend it! When you click any “✍️ Answer Icebreaker” button, the Icebreakers app will send you a message in your Messages tab in the App. You can easily respond with your text reply, and add a photo or video as an attachment.
